Alleppey Backwater Cruises
Three generations of boat builders, now three generations of hosts.
The people behind the boats
Founded in 2007 by the Varghese family — whose grandfather built kettuvallams for rice transport before tourism arrived — Alleppey Backwater Cruises still builds and maintains its own fleet in-house. What started as two restored rice barges is now twelve boats, but every boat is still inspected personally by the family before a guest boards.

Exactly as pictured
Boarding was smooth and the boat matched the photos exactly, which honestly surprised us after reading about other operators. Food was fresh and the crew checked in without being intrusive. Would recommend for the route alone.
